Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones

Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones was once a very tough woman in my memory. She wasn’t afraid of anyone’s sudden attack, and she kicked me so hard……That is why I hated that type of women. They are mean, testy, and violent. Besides that, she was two times as large as I was, with a crown of messy hair like a bird’s nest. Her skin was dark and oily. Those eyes were brown and big, such as the moon on the sky.

I once wanted money to buy a pair of shoes, so I started to steal women’s purses. That night, I saw Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones was carrying a big purse, I thought it was filled with coins or bills. This idea was controlling my mind. I rushed to her and stretched my arm. Suddenly, she turned around and kicked me! I flew through the air, felt like a bird, and landed on my butt. After that, she lifted me up, shook me like she shook a bubble tea. I was not the skinniest boy in the town, but she lifted me by her bare arms! Incredible!

At that moment, I was afraid because she maybe wanted to call the police and drag me to jail. I closed my eyes and prayed. But she did something surprising me- she took me to her house! What woman would take a stranger to her house, especially a person who wanted to steal her purse? We arrived at the house. She ordered me to go to wash my face. I looked at the door; I could escape now because it was opened. I looked at her; she was sitting on the daybed, but she didn’t try to close the door or keep a watchful eye on me. I looked at the door again; and went to the washroom. After I finished washing up, she cooked us some food. Don’t you think she was a little bit…..strange? Who would be so nice to a little, dirty, odd kid? But I didn’t care, because I was busy eating. Oh, how I loved cocoa and ham. When I was eating, she told me about her job, what the work was like, and her customers. After we finished the meal, she gave me some money to buy the shoes what I wanted.

I don’t know if I will see her in the future or not. I don’t think she would recognize me if she saw me, but I really want to say’ Thank you, m’am. ’
